    Cano Island Description:

    Caño Island is of great importance from the archaeological point of view. During pre-Columbian times the island was used as a cemetery. The artifacts are pieces of pottery, carved stone artifacts and the fascinating areas of Diquis. The most abundant pottery belonging to the Aguas Buenas periods (200-800 BC) and Chiriqui (800-1500 AC)
    WHY IT
    Name
    The name of the Isla del Caño is because when the Spanish arrived on the island that the island had seen small rivers and streams that flowed into the sea, are in Spain to these small rivers and streams pipes call him, but after that Spanish as they crossed the island called the Isle of pipes, hence the name is Cano Island.

    Location:
    Caño Island is located in the Pacific Ocean to 19 k Drake Bay offshore. On September 13, 1976, the island was declared a biological reserve by Decree No. 6385 and ratified on March 9, 1978, 6215 law.

    Cano Island is one of the most wildlife-rich submarine to visit in Costa Rica. There are a lot of fish and other animals that are there throughout the year. There is another large number of mammals that can be seen only during certain seasons.
    Examples: reef sharks, giant manta rays, Mobula rays, sea turtles, groupers, snappers, angel fish, Moorish idols, trumpet fish, several types of eel, shellfish, large schools of barracuda, jacks, grunts and much more.
    Corals are not as plentiful or as colorful in the Caribbean, but if they are present around. The currents are usually mild but can be strong from time to time. The team is certified as instructors and PADI Dive Master. All are certified in first aid and oxygen suppliers certificates.  The average depth is 60 to 100 feet. You can take short courses to be able to dive or failing is due to leave at least open water (PADI or NAUI).
